There are some books that move you. And the experience of reading the book is highly personal which you cannot truly express. Whatever you may say, it would feel like you’re doing injustice to the book. This is one such book for me.
So, please do apologise if this review feels a bit patronising, it’s just me fanboying Murakami!
This book is a humble memoir of my favourite author and Oh my god, reading this just fills me with incredible respect for the man. This book gave me an insight into the life of Murakami and I can relate so much to his lifestyle for that is borderline similar to the way I like life to be!
This book wasn’t a book about running, but a series of ruminations of the author while he runs. He speaks about major turning points in his life and tells things that seem insignificant, but in hindsight are just the things that give this book its special flavour.
He speaks about his journey as a writer, a runner and a triathlete on the surface. But, under the layer of a beautiful narrative, is a story of hardship, discipline, simple life and sheer perseverance of an ordinary man.
Sometimes taking time is actually a shortcut.Haruki Murakami
This is a book of an average man, doing average things being read by another average person.
The short glimpse into his mind gave me an idea of how Murakami comes up with the setting for all of his stories. I can extrapolate the content of this book and figure out why his characters are the way they are.
This book is perfectly paced and I definitely couldn’t stop myself from keeping this book aside. This book was 188 pages of sheer joy.
What I really liked about the book: The translation was spot on! The book is more like an anthology of interconnected essays describing his journey was pure fun! This book has been supremely inspirational!
What I didn’t like about the book: I just wish it were longer so that I could immerse myself into Murakami’s world!
This is one book I will revisit every year!
I would recommend this book to everyone. This book is not just for runners. This book is for everyone who is doing what they have to do. This is a book for everyone who wants to do what they want to do!
This is also a book for people who just want a good, heartwarming, wholesome short read!
